چکیده

Here we report the results of three parallel efforts: the recal0.3%. Likewise, Joe Michalsky went to the SGP site with a ibration and reanalysis of pyrano-metric data from Southern recently calibrated Eppley Normal Incidence Pyrheliometer Great Plains (SGP) to improve its accuracy, use of the (NIP) and an Eppley Precision Spectral Pyranometer (PSP). multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer (MFRSR) data to derive cloud optical depths and then tests of radiative transfer The Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) and Solar models to predict shortwave irradiance under cloudy skies, and Infrared Observing System (SIROS) complements of and operational results for the Rotating Shadowband Spectroshortwave instruments (those permanently operating at the radiometer (RSS) operated at SGP during the H O intensive SGP) include pyrheliometers, unshaded pyranometers, and 2 observation period (IOP) compared to MODTRAN-3.5. shaded pyranometers. Thus, during these calibration

Relationship between cloud radiative forcing, cloud fraction and cloud albedo, and new surface-based approach for determining cloud albedo

This paper focuses on three interconnected topics: (1) quantitative relationship between surface shortwave cloud radiative forcing, cloud fraction, and cloud albedo; (2) surface-based approach for measuring cloud albedo; (3) multiscale (diurnal, annual and inter-annual) variations and covariations of surface shortwave cloud radiative forcing, cloud fraction, and cloud albedo. An analytical expr...

The Status of Quality Measurement Experiments in the Microwave, Longwave, and Shortwave

Spectral analyses from the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer/Line-by-Line Radiative Transfer Model (AERI/LBLRTM) Quality Measurement Experiment (QME) have proven critical in the assessment of clear sky radiative transfer modeling capability for general circulation models (GCMs). The QME provides a mechanism for the assessment of the three critical components of the longwave spectral v...

Evaluation of a Stochastic Radiative Transfer Model Using Ground-Based Measurements

Scientists have long been aware there is a need for a stochastic description of radiative transfer through media with statistically distributed parameters (Stephens 1984; Ramanathan et al. 1989; Stephens et al. 1991). This study used a shortwave stochastic band model to investigate radiative transfer through a broken cloud field for several days when low-lying fair-weather cumulus and cumulus f...

Validation of surface retrieved cloud optical properties with in situ measurements at the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement Program (ARM) South Great Plains site

[1] Cloud optical properties inferred from a multifilter rotating shadowband radiometer have been validated against in situ measurements during the second ARM Enhanced Shortwave Experiment (ARESE II) field campaign at the ARM South Great Plains (SGP) site. On the basis of eight aircraft in situ vertical profiles (constructed from measurements), Forward Spectra Scattering Probe (FSSP), we find t...
